Museum Day 2009

Since becoming a stay-at-home mom, I've discovered a love for coupons and good bargains. It kind of gives me a thrill to walk out of the grocery store having spent $90 and saved $70! Last night, we ate at a restaurant using a buy one get one free coupon, and I just signed up for a promotion at our mall where they're giving away free $10 gift cards. I guess if I have to have an addiction, saving money is a good one, right? :)

Usually, I pass along good deals to people by e-mail, because they're only local deals. But because this one is national, and because I think it's nice to get out and act sophisticated every once in a while, I thought I'd post about the Smithsonian's Museum Day 2009. Go to their website and look up what museums are participating in your area, print out a voucher, and get free admission to that museum on September 26th! And it's not tiny unheard-of museums, either -- it's actual art museums, botanical gardens, zoos, and children's museums. Have fun!

And since no post is complete without a picture, here are the girls, smiling away! (Hadley top / Leila bottom)

Look At Us Grow!

Here's Leila on the Boppy at about 3 weeks old ...
And here's Hadley on it today, at about 12 weeks old! Can you believe it? Look how much longer their legs are!

Let's Face (Paint) It

We spent the weekend visiting Grandma and Grandpa's for the first time, where the grandkids were treated to face painting by Grandma. Of course I didn't want to leave my girls out! The paintbrush tickled their face, which made them squirmy, but Grandma did a good job anyway. Aren't they growing up fast?

The "lap" of luxury!

They're not doing it well (yet), but they're doing it!

Sleep Sacks

I don't know how many of you have swaddled your children, or how many of you have had a swaddle "Houdini", but my girls are experts at wiggling out of their swaddle. On top of that, recently they've started fighting the swaddle and getting mad when they can't get out. It's not a fun way to spend a night! Here are the girls in the sleep sacks (Leila/Hadley) that we've been using as an alternative:

**UPDATE:** Previously, this posting contained a lot of information about these sleep sacks. Since I didn't actually purchase the brand I was referring to, the family who owns the sleep sack company contacted me and asked me to remove the use of their name because of copyright issues. Who knew the World Wide Web could reach so far? :) So, I'll leave the cute picture for you to look at, and that's all.

Ruffle Bums

Is there anything cuter than ruffles on a baby's bottom? :)
The pictures are small, but you might be able to see Band-Aid evidence of our first immunizations today. The girls did awesome! I was so glad they didn't scream simultaneously for the whole appointment. And their weights ... a whopping 9 3/4 lbs for Leila, and 9 1/2 for Hadley! We're finally on the growth charts in the 10th percentile, instead of hanging out underneath the chart. I guess I'm feeding them right!

Origami Mobile

Who said I wouldn't have time to do anything when the twins came? :) I just finished this origami butterfly mobile that I created from scratch. Won't it look good with the tree mural my mom painted in their room? (I haven't hung it yet because there's no hook in their room.) I'm just glad I got done yesterday, because from 3 - 9 this morning, the girls wanted to eat every two hours, and I don't think they're old enough to push too hard to wait yet. That's not very BabyWise of me ... :)

They're not hard to make if you want to know how ... or, since I have extra supplies, you might even be able to persuade me to make one for you!

First Smiles

Since the girls were premature, we didn't know when they would smile -- whether they would fit into "normal" timelines or wait a little longer. We didn't have to wait long to find out! They both delighted us by showing us smiles within an hour of each other while we were visiting friends (they're 8 weeks old now). I wonder if they'll always hit milestones on the same day...

Looking Cute Is In Our Jeans

(Leila bottom / Hadley top)
Now that the girls are starting to fit into their clothes, you'll have to forgive me if I just can't stop posting new pictures for no reason! :)
